Title: Family matters ~ Chapter 8
Pairing: Jun, Masaki, Sho, Satoshi, Kazu (there are going to be additional side-characters though. No OCs.) I'm trying to give each of the five their well-deserves spot-light <3
Rating: PG
Multi-chapter
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] lover_youshould
Genre: family!AU in which Arashi are brothers :-) slice of life, a little drama (and I'm trying to add some light-hearted, funny moments to it too)
Summary: Since they were little they were always close to each other. And when unfortunate events force them to live together without their parents, it's only natural that they try to make the best out of it.

Satoshi hasn’t even expected Jun to answer his knocking. The more he is surprised when he actually opens the door. “Yes?” Jun asks like it’s the most normal reaction.

Satoshi stares at him for a while, too surprised to say anything. “You opened your door?”

“I obviously did,” Jun answers calmly. “So, is there something you need?” Oh god, he is just using the Sho-strategy when he wants to get rid of something or someone. Brothers indeed. Too good with words and this superior aura.

“You really resemble each other, do you know that?”

Jun blinks. “Who?”

“You and Sho.”

Jun frowns. “Are you here to insult me or do you actually want something else?”

Satoshi is surprised, not sure what to make out of what he just heard. “Is it an insult to be like Sho?”

“No,” Jun answers and blushes slightly, as he most likely just realized his weird choice of words. “I just meant… when it comes from you as his twin it sounds so different.”

“You mean I have ulterior motives?”

Jun shrugs.

Well, he might be right. When he peaks into the room, he can see how Kazu is lying at the floor, eyeing the ceiling for a moment before he throws him an indifferent glance. He seems to be a bit annoyed by the interruption, at the same time his eyes are weirdly glassy. Before Satoshi can say something though, Jun steps right into his sight. “Satoshi,” he says earnestly. “Can’t you guys leave me alone for today?”

Satoshi sighs. How the hell did Kazu manage to make his way into this danger zone without getting bitten or kicked out? It’s so difficult to understand these kids, really. “Jun-“

“No, I mean it. Please respect that.”

“For today?” Satoshi asks, pulling his eyebrows up. “Does that mean I can get on your nerves tomorrow then?”

Jun snorts, a sound that’s somewhat in between amused and highly irritated. “You will never leave me and Kazu alone, will you?” he asks. Satoshi isn’t sure if it’s a complaint or not, but nevertheless he has to smile a bit.

“Of course not. You are my baby-brothers after all.” He chuckles and reaches out his hand, patting Jun’s head affectionately. He grew tall, unfortunately, which makes it more difficult to cuddle him. To his surprise Jun smiles.

“I’m feeling a bit bad about Sho,” Jun admits, much to Satoshi’s surprise. Where is that coming from right now? For a moment he isn’t quite sure if it’s a distraction strategy or not, but then Jun looks so sincerely guilty that Satoshi comes to the conclusion that he really means it. “Can’t you just go and check if he is alright? He can be a little dramatic.”

Satoshi has to hold back a smile. Yeah, Sho can be a real drama queen, not that anyone else knows to what extent he can throw a drama. Satoshi does know though. “I will,” he promises.

Jun lets out a relieved sigh. “Thank you.”

“Oh you,” Satoshi smiles and hugs Jun out of the blue, ignoring the way Jun makes a few remarks to hide his embarrassment. “It’s going to be alright, I promise.” He lets go of Jun, patting his shoulders. He squeezes his eyes slightly. “So, go back to drunk Kazu-chan now,” he whispers, and Jun finally cracks an honest smile.

When Jun has closed the door again, Satoshi lets out a sigh though. It went better than he expected it, but still, there is no real chance to get through Jun and Kazu tonight - he has learned that much already – but he can definitely deal with Sho. Nothing easier than that. For that purpose he goes and picks up Masaki from the kitchen.

Masaki looks into his drink bitterly. He seems to try to drown his depression in his non-alcoholic mulled wine. He can be so cute sometimes.

“I originally wanted to go for that gin bottle, but I can’t find it. Sho brought it home last night, I’m sure about that,” he says when Satoshi approaches him. “Do you know where it is?”

Satoshi recalls Kazu’s glassy eyes, but this time he decides to drop it. After all Kazu’s approach did work it seems. “Let’s not ask too many questions like that tonight,” he chuckles softly. “Come, Sho hides the really good stuff somewhere else. Let’s get something to drink, some food and go and kick our dramatic brother out of his room.”

Masaki’s eyes light up. “Finally a good idea!” He jumps up. “I’m ordering pizza for us. Extra-cheesy, garlic, mayonnaise pizza with ham and bacon, oh and with egg. Plus the crust should be filled with extra cheese.” He nods to himself, already grabbing his phone to order something in.

Satoshi feels already sick by only listening to Masaki’s description but on the other side it’s just the perfect food for this situation.

While Masaki is on the phone, he takes his own mobile, dialling a by now well-known number. “Kazuya-kun?”

“Hello, Satoshi-kun!” Kame sounds seriously happy to receive his call. Judging by the background sound he is cooking something. “How are you?”

“Well-“ Satoshi starts carefully.

But Kame seems to get the hint, because he chuckles. “I see.”

“I’m sorry. I need to clean up the mess first; then, if you still want to see me, I’ll drop by.”

“The mess?” Kame asks curiously.

“Yeah,” Satoshi snorts. “My twin brother.”

Kame chuckles. “I’m staying up late,” he explains. “And I’m cooking gyoza. So, come whenever you have done what you need to do.”

Satoshi smiles. “Thank you.”

Masaki bites into his fifth piece of pizza. Unbelievable what amounts of food he can swallow. He also stays pretty slender most of the time, which is unfair.

They have successfully dragged Sho out of his room, with Satoshi basically waltzing inside – thankful that Sho never uses a key to lock his doorand dragged him into his atelier. Half way upstairs Sho had given up his resistance and when Masaki showed him the bottle with tequila actually accepted his fate… namely to get wasted with them.

Sho has eaten one piece of pizza until now because Satoshi forced it on him then he stuck to his tequila. He is completely spent now.

“Please stop sobbing into your drink,” Satoshi says softly while he pats Sho’s shoulder. “Like seriously. Don’t be so overdramatic.”

“Yes, sobbing into a drink is my task,” Masaki jokes lightly.

“How can you make jokes now!?” Sho huffs and empties yet another shot. Satoshi sighs a bit; he should take that tequila bottle away from him at some point. He just doesn’t know when. Needs the right timing.

“Did he really say that you have an STD?” Masaki asks instead of reacting to Sho’s complaint. “And the kids in school think you are leading a sex club?”

“Yes.”

Masaki giggles a bit, not stopping even when Satoshi throws him a warning glance. “You are not helping,” he mumbles.

“Oh come on,” Masaki smiles. “It is funny. At least a bit! You have to admit that.”

He will, probably tomorrow or in a few days, when everyone calmed down and these two idiots made up again and settled their fight. Until then it’s probably better to stay indifferent to the whole STD-story (as funny as it secretly might be, considering that Sho hasn’t had any love interaction since what seems forever.)

“Come one, Sho,” Satoshi tries it once more, going for a light tone in his voice now. “It’s not the first time that you two clashed. Think about the last time! It was actually quite worse! In fact your temper got a lot better over the years – this was only the second big fight you had in a year…” He frowns. “Okay, in four months… well, maybe two-”

“Now you are the one who isn’t helping,” Masaki hisses quietly.

“The last time-“ Sho pauses, taking yet another sip from his tequila, wavering dangerously while doing so. He has forgotten to add salt and orange to it long ago. “-I didn’t hit him the last time! How can that one be worse than today? I’m normally doing the count down from ten thingy~ when I’m close to snapping from this internet manual I found. It helps, always. But this time I forgot! I’m such a terrible person. I’m on the top ten list of horrible persons. No wait-” A pause in which he circles the bottle in his hand, staring at it through glazed eyes before hugging it to his heart. “-Make it top five!”

“You are not a terrible person! And you are far away from being in the top 10. In fact you are wonderful guy, working hard, always sincere. That’s good. You just need to let go of that tensed attitude which you always have around me, Kazu and Jun.” Masaki is all earnest now too, frowning a bit. “Satoshi is right, Sho, you need to calm down. Yes, you snapped today. You have both not handled this tension between you well. It didn’t come out of nowhere! So what? You will settle it! You are too overdramatic.”

“Overdramatic?” Sho lets his head hang down, looking like 16 again rather than almost 30. “I slapped him. With this hand of mine!” To underline his gesture he raises a hand and points at it.

Masaki bites down on his lips, his body vibrating slightly in laughter while Satoshi just sighs. “This is my hand, Sho. Besides it’s my left one, and I’m right-handed.”

“You don’t understand-“ Sho ignores him. “It was so bad – My hand still hurts!”

“Your hand doesn’t hurt anymore,” Satoshi tries to reason. “It’s been five hours. It can’t hurt.”

“But it does.”

Satoshi sighs. “That’s because you cut yourself while opening the last tequila bottle.”

Sho nods for a while, his eyes weirdly clouded. Then he hides his face behind his hands again. “Oh no, what did I do? I mean, how could I do that? Now he hates me.” He squeezes his eyes awkwardly. “I mean, now he hates me more than he did before.”

Satoshi lets out a sigh. “And he is on it again.” He eyes Masaki, gesturing at the bottle that is closer to Masaki than it is to him. “Take it away,” he whispers.

Masaki nods and without further ado he just grabs it and throws it towards Satoshi. Sho’s head snaps up. “Hey!” he huffs. “Give my tequila back to me.”

“You seriously had enough,” Satoshi says affectionately. He feels a bit at a loss here; he is not good at dealing with this kind of drama. He is also not really good at comforting someone – Sho is a lot better with that. Normally. He just wishes they could forward the time and have it all resolved already. Maybe Kazu was right a few weeks ago because whenever it is about Sho he is weirdly torn. Right now he just wishes to see him happy again and relaxed and not wallowing in guilt.

“Listen, Sho-chan,” Masaki takes a deep breath and takes Sho’s hand, patting it. “You have had several fights until now. Some were light, some were pretty bad. You had them with me, with Jun, even with Kazu. Just like we all tend to get into fights with each other. It’s not only you. Look at Satoshi and Kazu – they are even worse! At least you and Jun are emotional. You just need to find a balance for how to handle our younger siblings.”

“But-“

“It’s not the first time you fought with one of them and it won’t be the last. You need to suck it up!”

“But-“

“No buts!” Masaki interrupts him. “This is not just your fault. Jun’s been in such a weird mood for months now. I’m not saying that you should have lost it like you did – you shouldn’t have. And Sa-chan is at fault too, at least a bit, for watching too long. He could have helped you resolve it!” Masaki eyes him reproachfully. “Or at least he could have tried to resolve his own problems with Kazu-chan. It’s getting freaking annoying that you guys can’t handle your own drama.”

“I like it when you are so blunt and in your wise-Buddha-mode, Masaki.” Satoshi smiles warily.

“I just don’t like to see you fighting,” Masaki argues. “I like you happy and when you are getting along. And it’s been quite long since you all got along with everyone. You need to understand the core of the problem.”

Satoshi frowns a bit. He has wondered about that himself already. He doesn’t get these whole issues at all. It stopped being normal a year ago. Or maybe two. When he realizes that Masaki is watching him, waiting for him to say something, he coughs to diffuse his thoughts. “Seriously, Sho, Masaki-chan is right. I didn’t help you solve anything until now. But you really need to stop the guilt-trip and drama. I saw Jun earlier and he was pretty normal actually. He didn’t even sound sulky or angry, instead he looked rather guilty himself. So quit the drama, will you?”

“I hate drama,” Sho mumbles. “How come I’m in the centre of it recently? Please someone take my place? I’m giving it for free. All tax-free~ with a free napkin and a cho- I mean- so-soap.”

“No thanks,” Masaki chuckles.

“But you know,” Satoshi angles for one of his cigarettes now. He needs all he can get at the moment. “You could just stop it from being a drama.”

“It sounds so simple,” Sho mumbles.

“It is simple,” Masaki says with the confidence of a person that’s always liked by everyone and hardly caught in a fight anyway. But well, he is still right. “And if it’s not, make it simple.”

“Make it simple?” Sho asks, frowning deeply. “Yes!” His eyes snap open, like he has just encountered a fairy flying down to them and enlightening him with the wisdom of the whole world. “I’m going to make it simple. I’m going to talk to Jun. Face to face. I can do it!”

“Yes, that’s the right spirit,” Masaki exclaims happily, hugs Sho and raises his fist into the air, and for a moment it seems like he and Sho just jumped out of a ridiculous manga or won a wrestling tournament.

“Can I do it right now?” Sho wants to know, apparently immediately into his new-found resolve.

Satoshi chuckles slightly, patting Sho’s arm. “It’s pretty late already. I would advise you to wait until tomorrow, lil’bro.”

“He always calls me little brother, Masaki. Why does he do that?” Sho frowns while he seems to wait for an answer from Masaki. “He is just as stupid as I am. Ask Kazu-chan about it, he will agree with me immediately.”

In vino veritas, wasn’t it? Still Satoshi has to grin. “You are probably right about that.”

“And you seriously need to go to bed.” Masaki angles for Sho’s hand yet again, tugging him along.

“You are so nice, Masaki-chan,” Sho mumbles in his daze. “And you are smart. And super-cute. Super-gigantomatic-monster-hunter-cute, as our lovely-witty but also stupid for skipping school Kazu would say. Or very charming, as our cute sophisticated Jun would say.”

Masaki grins. “I wished I would have recorded this.”

“No wonder that old Italian teacher fell for you!”

Satoshi burst into laughter while Masaki throws him a glare. “She is not old. Only a few years older than I am. Jeez.”

“Of course, she is perfectly fine!” Satoshi smiles. Despite the fact that they didn’t solve anything right now, he feels a bit better. It’s going to turn out well, he thinks. It rarely happens that Sho has such a mental breakdown but everytime he has, he is able to change things miraculously afterwards. Like he needs the drama occasionally.

“Lucky, Masaki-“ Sho sighs while Satoshi saves him from running against the half-opened door. “He is dating an elder woman. With experience.”

Satoshi grins.

“She for sure knows super-sex-tricks like…” he pauses and chuckles. “I don’t know what. You tell us Masaki-chan? You are dating her! Is she teaching you?”

Satoshi bursts into laughter, ignoring the glares Masaki is sending him. “We should have really recorded that.”

It’s 6 AM when Kazu can feel how someone is shaking him. He is basically jumping out of his bed, ready to kill whoever- “Masaki?”

“Yes, finally you are awake.” His older brothers says, panic in his voice. “Come. Fast! It's about Jun..."

Masaki looks so stressed and nervous that Kazu doesn’t even ask any further questions, he swiftly switches his clothes and hurries downstairs.

A/N: To be honest, it wasn't even intended first that the tequila night turned a bit... fun. But I can't help it... drunk and panicking Sho is kinda cute :-) And in the end, both Sho and Jun feel guilty for various reasons. They could have it so much easier... don't you think so?

By the way, Kazu's arc is going to start soon, with the end of chapter 10.
