Duck Lips (Ryo/Sakai Masato)
Pairing: Ryo/Sakai Masato, guests: Anne, Ryo (actress)
Rating: PG-13.
Genre: romance
One-shot
Disclaimer: I don't own them or anything else JE-related. But the story is mine of course^^
Summary: In Sakai Masato’s opinion there was nothing cuter or more adorable than a pout...
Note: I originally wanted to post a Drabble Series for Ryo's birthday, but I started way too late with it. So I settled for a rare-pair, something I've always wanted to write ♥
In Sakai Masato’s opinion there was nothing cuter or more adorable than a pout. He loved a girl’s lips when she was pouting, her eyes wide-opened in surprise, wonder or anger. He loved it when it was a pout combined with a slight blush or when she was pouting out of a feeling of annoyance. That’s why he was surprised when he finally met a person that exactly fit into this dream-picture.
Just that it was not a girl. But a guy.
“Hey Nishikido-san…” Masato grabbed a chair and sat down next to his younger colleague. “You really were doing great today.”
“Eh?” Ryo blushed in surprise, not used to this kind of compliments from his co-star yet. “Thanks…”
Masato laughed. “Now you are blushing.”
Ryo blinked slightly, trying his best to fight his obvious emotions back. “I’m not. I just…didn’t sleep well.”
“Yes,” Masato chuckled. “Of course, that’s it.”
Ryo shifted around a bit, feeling taken aback by the older one’s way to approach him. But there definitely was something about Masato that was alluring. Even though Ryo was feeling totally awkward around him and though he hated it to get teased and hit on like that, he kinda enjoyed it… because it was Sakai Masato.
Truth was that he hadn’t been particularly excited to shoot together with him when he first heard about his co-star. He hadn’t known much about him, but then he had met him. Masato was alluring, calm, fun (in a very weird way though) and casual. Random and cool. It was easy to feel comfortable around him. Just that recently Masato found a liking in teasing Ryo. God knows why.
But slowly Ryo got used to Masato’s way of handling people and his random attitude. Actually he learned to loosen up in front of him and to enjoy his company. They had gone out together several times till now and always had their lunch break together.
Now they were drinking coffee during a little break they had. Ryo looked down at his coffee, pouting slightly when he realized that there was too much sugar in it, too sweet. Who could even drink that? He was surprised when Masato chuckled all of a sudden. “Here it is again.”
“Eh?” Ryo blinked, honest confusion in his eyes.
Masato smiled brightly, his eyes getting small like little half-moons. “Nothing.”
Ryo looked at the other in fascination. He had always thought that Masato’s smile was the most interesting thing on earth. His eyes almost disappeared when he laughed, making him look mysterious in a cute and charming way. “You know,” Ryo mused out of a sudden. “Your Date-smile is actually cool.”
“Why is that?” Masato asked in surprise.
Ryo shrugged. “It makes one feel comfortable.” He smirked teasingly. “Maybe because of the cute wrinkles around your eyes? It’s your secret weapon… I bet girls are hunting you for this smile.”
“Eh?” Masato almost spit out his coffee again, blushing slightly. Wrinkles? Cute? Girls hunting him?
Ryo looked at the other in confusion, surprised by the other’s shocked reaction. When he saw Masato’s blush and his obvious embarrassment, he grinned a bit. Finally he had found a way to get back to this guy.
******
Anne and Ryo-san exchanged some glances when they were watching their male co-stars teasing and chatting with each other. They had joined them for a drink after a day full of rehearsals and recordings for a TV-show.
Ryo-san laughed all of a sudden, twinkling towards the two men. “You two are weird…”
“Totally,” Anne agreed with her. “I kinda feel like I’m missing something here… But Nishikido-san is right, Sakai-san’s Date-smile is
kinda alluring.”
Ryo-san tilted her head a bit. “I’ll rather go with Sakai-san here and say that… Nishikido-san’s pout is kinda adorable.”
“What are you talking?” Masato mumbled, blushing slightly. Then he grinned teasingly. “Shameless girls, really.”
The two women laughed at that. It was part of Masato’s charm, Ryo thought, that no one would ever feel insulted by his teasing jokes. Masato simply was…charming. He never insulted someone, he never used biting remarks. He was a tease sometimes and he had a very dry and sarcastic humour, but he was always polite. Even when teasing someone or scolding someone or when he was angry, he was polite.
It was later at night when Ryo was accompanying his female name-mate to her apartment. They were living in a similar area and were naturally walking with each other.
“Isn’t it fun…” Ryo-san mused, smiling at her colleague. “We share the same name.”
“Maybe.” Ryo chuckled. “But then, it’s not your real name.”
“Maybe Ryo is my real name?”
“It’s not,” Ryo smiled. “I looked it up.”
She laughed slightly. “You like to be prepared, don’t you? But that’s okay, I’m the same.”
“But we honestly need to think of a solution,” Ryo mused. “Whenever someone calls ‘Ryo-kun’, I’m totally startled.”
“You can call me Katagiri.´,” she offered.
Ryo grinned. “That’s your drama name!”
She chuckled a bit. “It’s difficult to come up with a nickname when only having such a short name…”
“At least people aren’t calling you Ryo-chan,” Ryo smiled. “That’s my name.”
“Well…” she smirked a bit. “Sakai-san calls you like that too? Occasionally…”
“EH!?” Ryo couldn’t help a blush. “He never called me like that.”
Ryo-san smiled warmly. “He does. When you aren’t listening.”
Ryo blinked in confusion at that, his eyes following Ryo-san’s slender figure when she waved him a good-bye and disappeared into her apartment-house. He had to admit that she was a particularly smart woman, very observant and smart. So…What did she mean?
******
“Here you are,” Masato smiled contently when he found Ryo on the roof deck of the building. “I was searching for you…”
“Really?” Ryo scanned Masato carefully, wondering once again why the other was showing so much interest in him. Was it interest? Or was it something else? “I’m just smoking…”
Masato pulled one of his eyebrows up, sneering a bit. “I thought you stopped?”
“I did.” Ryo blushed. “But I found this cigarette. It was the last one in a package…I forgot to throw it away.” When he saw Masato’s glance, something between surprised, disapproving…and very amused… he blushed. “It was tempting,” he defended himself.
Masato smiled. “Did I say anything?”
“Well…you look as if you don’t approve.” Ryo mumbled, feeling a bit awkward.
“So? What if? Does it matter?” Masato checked Ryo properly, once again taking in his beautiful features, his well-shaped body… This time he wasn’t even waiting for a pout, Ryo was attractive the way he was – with or without a pout. “Does it bother you if I disapprove of something?” he asked in interest, his eyes never leaving Ryo’s face. It was easy to read him, at least he had thought that, but unfortunately the answers to some fundamental questions were buried deep beneath the surface.
Ryo shrugged a bit, looking up at the sky. “Not really,” he paused. “Or maybe it does bother me?” He wasn’t so sure about the
answer himself. He just knew that it bothered him that Masato didn’t like something about him, but at the same time he couldn’t tell why it was like that.
“It’s your last cigarette?” Masato asked sweetly.
Ryo nodded his head. “Yes. Why?” he blinked in surprise, when the cigarette was suddenly snatched away from him. “What are you doing!?”
Masato grinned, holding Ryo’s cigarette between his fingers and taking a deep breath from it. “Well, since this was your last, nothing is tempting anymore.”
Ryo stared at Masato in disbelief, watching how the latter was taking one more breath, before he threw the cigarette away. Ryo blushed slightly, both because of embarrassment and slight anger. He was stubborn, just that Masato didn’t know that yet. With a swift movement Ryo had jumped up, walking towards the older man, smirking at him.
The latter blinked in serious surprise, wondering what Ryo was up to. “What are you doing?” he mumbled when he felt Ryo’s face getting closer.
“The last breath was mine.” Ryo mumbled, not even realizing how seductive his voice sounded to Masato’s – or anyone’s – ears.
Masato leaned against the wall, his eyes sparkling in an almost unusual mischievous way. “If you want it, take it.”
“I will…”
“Good,” Masato smiled his alluring smile, before he grabbed Ryo’s collar and pulled him into a heated kiss.
Ryo could feel the other’s warm lips, his breath still wearing the scent of the cigarette, Masato’s fingers buried deep into his hair. Some time ago Pi had told him that kissing someone like that was not a real kiss. Just something fun and innocent, but Ryo highly doubted that. It sounded more like an excuse to kiss for real.
When they drew back from each other Ryo was even more confused than after his talk with Ryo-san. A blush crawled over his cheeks when Masato bent forward a bit. “Hey Kiddo,” He smiled his Date-smile, the one Ryo was almost dying for and obviously hiding his own embarrassment and uneasiness with it. “I’ll be cooking pasta tonight. Wanna drop by for some drinks?”
Ryo nodded his head warily, not sure what this invitation really meant. He replayed Masato’s words in his minds, then he blinked out of a sudden. “Kiddo!?”
Masato chuckled warmly. He had definitely found another little charming point about Ryo. Masato liked a pout, definitely, but he also had a thing for stubborn girls. Well, Ryo wasn’t a girl, but who cared about these little differences?
“Sorry,” Masato smiled friendly. “How should I call you then?”
“How about Ryo?” Ryo suggested randomly, grinning a bit when he saw how Masato was obviously surprised. Something inside his eyes was twitching, signalizing Ryo that he was not the only one being confused by this whole situation.
******
“You know what?” Ryo mused. “I think Miyagi should finally kiss Kudo. Really… he is waiting for it.”
Masato smiled. “You really get into your work, right?”
“Of course,” Ryo stuttered. “Is that bad?”
“Not at all.” He handed the younger one a glass with whisky, leading him to his living room. Ryo looked around a bit, feeling a bit awkward. He had never been in Masato’s living room. Actually he had never been in any of his co-workers apartments. It was a line he hardly ever crossed… but Masato was so different that he couldn’t help it.
He sat down on Masato’s perfect dark-blue sofa, shifting around a bit. “You know…” he continued, mostly to diffuse his own awkward mood. “I think Date shouldn’t have broken up with Katagiri…”
“Hm,” Masato tilted his head. “I’m not sure… she might have become dangerous for him. Besides, much more important: his work would be dangerous for her.”
“But breaking up with her didn’t save her,” Ryo mused.
Masato blinked at that. “You are right,” He suddenly admitted. “It didn’t save her.”
“Maybe it would have saved her if she had been allowed to decide by herself if she wanted to be together with him or not?” Ryo analysed. “Just like…”
“Hey Ryo?” Masato interrupted the younger one, his voice sounding soft.
“Yes?”
“Are you nervous?” the older one asked bluntly, scanning Ryo’s face carefully. He tried to smile as reassuringly as possible. To his relief he could see how Ryo’s expression relaxed a bit.
“It’s just a bit strange…” Ryo admitted. “I’m normally very shy.”
"Oh, I know that,” Masato laughed. “It was one hell of a work to get down to you at the beginning.” He leaned back, looking at Ryo
in interest. “What did you think of me first?”
“That you are weird…” Ryo answered bluntly, biting down on his tongue immediately afterwards. Stupid him for not thinking before he talked! It didn’t matter when he did that with his friends or bandmates, but Masato was something else…
Masato blinked, something inside him twitching. “You really are snarky sometimes,” he analysed and Ryo wasn’t all that sure if it was a simple statement or a complaint.
“Sorry,” Ryo stuttered, looking at the other miserably.
Masato felt sorry for his previous words almost immediately. “I didn’t mean it in a bad way.” he tried to reassure Ryo, feeling nervous. “It just…slipped.”
Ryo blinked at that for a moment, then he had to laugh. “It slipped? I’m so glad that Sakai Masato-kun isn’t perfect either,” he joked.
“You thought I’m perfect?”
“Well, kind of,” Ryo admitted.
“I’m not perfect,” Masato mused.
Ryo shrugged slightly. “I know that.”
Masato had to smile at that. “You really are snarky…”
“Well, you get the whole package…” Ryo shifted around, angling for his whisky glass to diffuse his nervousness. “Is that a problem?”
“No, I like the whole package,” Masato stayed quiet for a moment, looking down at his fingers. “You were right. This here is weird.”
“Totally!” Ryo admitted in relief. “I hate weird… Though I’m so awkward myself”
“How do you prefer it then?” Masato wanted to know.
“Simple.” Ryo mused, standing up a bit to walk towards one of the windows. “Not too many complications, not too much talking, not making things more difficult than they already are.”
He blinked in confusion when he felt how a hand suddenly grabbed his glass of whisky, taking it away from him and placing it on the table. Then the same hand was back again, grabbing the back of his neck and pulling him closer, until Ryo’s eyes were right in front of a very well-known smile he loved so much.
There were lots of things standing between them, things they would still need to discuss, like their age difference, the fact that they hardly knew each other yet. It was just a feeling that connected them for now, but it was an unusually strong thread.
Ryo was struggling with these thoughts, but then he decided to simply step forward. He showed Masato his bright smile, the smile Masato loved so much.
And Masato smiled right back at him. The smile, Ryo loved so much.

*looool* Seducive Ryo is the best. ^^ I loved the scene with the cigarette. It was so cool how you split Ryo's character into seducive and sweet. <3 That's sooooo cool. ^^
I think the pairing is totally interesting, because they are really similar in my opinion. ^^
And who doesn't love Ryo's pout?! XDDD
Oh, and the girls are also great. ^^
Thanks sooo much for sharing this *hugs*

I want that kiss! *rages*
Omg, this entire story is just so brilliant. I won't go on again about how I love your dialogues and images. You already know that. ^^
Haha, I very much enjoyed the set gossipping. XDDD People talk about the main actors. The backstage feeling was so nice. <3
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLZ!!!!!
I LOVED Ryo-chan being so embarrassed about his "last cigarette". XDDD His entire reacion. First he feels like he got caught doing something forbidden, feeling a bit guilty. Then it's like "omg, he saw me being weak like that" and then he gets angry at himself for even caring. Mou, Ryo-chaaaaan!!! <3 *cuddles*
Haha, but Masato's act was really cool too. I guess that got to Ryo. He likes his guys cool. XD
Aw, I really love the scene between them at Masato's place. So much awesomeness. Big LOLZ for Ryo being cocky.
You get the whole package... Priceless. XDDD
Thanks a lot for writing this. Totally wouldn't mind a sequel.
