Family Matters Prologue

Title: Family matters ~ Prologue
Pairing: Jun, Masaki, Sho, Satoshi, Kazu (there are going to be additional side-characters though. No OCs.) I'm trying to give each of the five their well-deserves spot-light <3
Rating: PG
Multi-chapter
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] lover_youshould
Genre: family!AU in which Arashi are brothers :-) slice of life, a little drama (and I'm trying to add some light-hearted, funny moments to it too)
Summary: Since they were little they were always close to each other. And when unfortunate events force them to live together without their parents, it's only natural that they try to make the best out of it.
Note: I've taken quite some liberty with the age gap, with a difference of 14 years beetween the youngest (16) and oldest (30). (and Yama are twins, just because I can ^^)  The prologue is pretty fluffy, but I promise there will be some drama (because it's me! *lol*)
Note 2: For the character sheet and additional information (plot and supporting characters) please go HERE.

“Okay,” the voice of Sho, his twin, is only a low whisper. “Are you okay carrying Kazu-chan, Satoshi?”

Satoshi nods, while he carries the small child in his arms. It’s heavier than he thought though. Gladly Kazu is half asleep and only clings to his neck. Satoshi wavers dangerously – he is not the strongest teen on earth but he should definitely be strong enough to carry his younger brother. He wished he were taller and strong, but well, maybe he will still grow? “And what about you, Sho?” he whispers.

“I’m taking Jun.”

“Mom will be angry,” Masaki whines when Sho approaches the crib carefully. He hides behind Satoshi, watching how Sho angles for the tiny baby.

“Sh!” Satoshi huffs.

“Ah, look,” Sho giggles when he finally manages to take Jun out of his baby bed. He was only a few months old and in Satoshi’s opinion – and also in Sho’s, as he tends to flail about every one of Jun’s noises and basically loves to take any chance to babysit and to look after him – the most fascinating being on the whole planet, right next to Kazu. His feet and fingers were so tiny – like… seriously… how could someone be that cute. Now he half-gurgles and half-blabbers in his incomprehensible baby-tongue, then a tiny yawn escapes his lips. Sho rocks him in his arm a bit. “He is so cute~”

“Yes,” Satoshi pokes Jun’s feet carefully, giggling when he stretches his little toes. “He and Kazu are so super-cute.”

“I’m cute too!” Masaki exclaims.

“SH!” Sho hisses but nods nevertheless. “Yes, you are cute too.”

“Let’s go now,” Satoshi whispers. “We should hurry and be back soon.”

With the baby brothers in their arms and Masaki clinging to Sho’s jacket, they silently make their way through the hallway, up the stairs and into the attic. “Did you prepare everything?” Sho whispers.

Satoshi nods. Of course he did. A sheet of paper with the vow. A box. And several tiny things that were dear to them – Satoshi’s old watercolours, Sho’s old beloved stuffed animal, Masaki’s favourite baby-book before he started going to school this year, Kazu’s old dinosaur (the one with a broken leg)  and Jun’s old romper suit, which he grew out of last week.

“Good.”

They reach the attic without further problems, then however Masaki stumbles a bit, making Jun wake up. The latter blinks his eyes a few times before they widen and he lets out a high-pitched scream.

“Oh…shit,” Satoshi mumbles. When Sho throws him a glare, he blushes. “Oh, sorry, I forgot, no s-word in front of the children,” he whispers.

Kazu is fully awake too now and turns around curiously. His tiny, pointy little finger pokes Satoshi’s cheek now, then he grabs a handful of Satoshi’s hair and tugs at it, making him hiss in pain. Kazu laughs happily. Then however Kazu’s attention seems to wander towards the screaming little being in Sho’s arms.

“Shun…” Kazu frowns. “Pun…” He takes a deep breath trying to pronounce the name once more. “Jun’sh no-ish-y.” His eyes light up all of a sudden when he faces the door. “Ohhhh, Daddy!”

Satoshi feels how basically all the blood is leaving his face. Oh my god. What now? Their father switches on the light. “Boys-“ he yawns tiredly. “What are you doing in the middle of the night? And why are the two youngest ones with you.” He takes Jun out of Sho’s hands and calms him down. “The attic is not a place for a baby.”

“Well-“ Sho stutters, throwing a glance towards Satoshi.

Satoshi shrugs helplessly. He is not sure what to say now. His father isn’t going to be too happy to see that they brought their three younger brothers here for such a childish thing. He is a lawyer after all and always likes things done correctly.

“So?” their father pulls his eyebrows up and looks at them earnestly.

Satoshi swallows. “It’s about a vow,” he says.

“Yes, like a promise,” Sho stutters. “We want to stay together, and look out for each other.”

Their father blinks. “You mean, you five?” He looks around and eyes the box and the sheet of paper. “Well then,” he hands Jun back to Sho much to Satoshi’s surprise. “Proceed then.”

Satoshi and Sho exchange a glance of disbelief. Being an adult has to be a weird thing because their father doesn’t seem to be angry at all. Instead he sits down at a chair further away, humming a song even and looking all happy.

“I don’t get the grown-ups,” Satoshi whispers towards Sho quietly.

Sho nods secretly. “Yeah, we should watch out when we grow up.”

“Yeah, you got Dad’s temper and his way to talk like we are in court.”

“And you Mom’s weird artistic behaviour and her always awaked gaze,” Sho adds quietly.

“Let’s make this a vow for another time,” Satoshi mumbles.

For now though, they don’t waste any time, just gather all the things they need and put them in the box. “We have to sign the paper,” Sho says. “It’s a contract after all.”

“Hm~” Satoshi nods and scribbles his name down. Followed by Masaki. Then they take the babies into their arms again, carefully dipping one of their fingers into ink and pressing them on the paper. Jun seems to be weirdly fascinated by the paint on his finger, his lips tug.

“OH!” Sho exclaims. “He just smiled!”

“I don’t believe so,” their father intervenes from his place on the chair. “He is still too little to smile. It was probably just an instinctive reaction.”

“He did smile!” Sho answers stubbornly. Being able to articulate himself has always been his forte, and he wasn’t shy at all. Satoshi loves that about his twin – it brought them a lot of advantages. “He had an instinctive smiley reaction. Other babies might start smiling when they are a bit older, but Jun is a genius. Probably something he inherited from me.”

Hadn’t it sounded so full of love and happiness Satoshi might have teased Sho for sounding so stuck up about his own clever brain but there is no time for arguments, because his twin carefully presses Jun’s finger on the paper.

Then it’s Satoshi’s turn and once more he wonders why Sho had no troubles with Jun, while he ended up with Kazu aka the problematic case, because that little devil just grabs the whole bottle with ink, shaking it until his hands are covered and then grabs Satoshi’s nose and cheek, giggling happily when he spreads the colour there.

“Stop playing around Satoshi,” Sho says firmly.

Satoshi throws him a glare and carefully angles for Kazu’s hands. Kazu looks upset for a moment, then however he decides colouring the contract is fun too.

“Done,” Sho calls out and takes the paper away, before Kazu can do any more mess, putting the contract on top of the box.

“And now?” their father asks.

“We need to bury it.”

“Ah,” he nods and takes the two smaller ones into his arms. “What are you waiting for then? If your mother catches us, she might be mad at us.”

It’s nice, Satoshi thinks, that he says us. That he plays along and follows them outside even, walking all the ten minutes to the forest, where they have their favourite place. When he wants to help dig a hole though, Sho shakes his head.

“Excuse us,” Sho mumbles. “This is a brother thing. But-” He shows a polite and warm smile. “Thank you.”

Their father grins a bit and steps back. “Of course.”

It takes them longer than expected to dig the hole. Masaki tries to help, but he is in their way most of the time. However, none of them has the heart to tell him to step aside. They finish it eventually and Sho lets Masaki place the box in the hole, while he and Satoshi bury it with soil.

“Okay,” Sho whispers and goes to catch Jun and Kazu again, handing Kazu to Satoshi. Satoshi takes Jun’s little hand into his, Masaki Kazu’s and Sho’s. They build a perfect circle like that.

No matter how, we’ll always stay together. We’ll protect them, each and every one of them. We’ll protect each other. Because the only thing we’ll always have is us. We are family. We fight and make up. We promise to always love each other, no matter what happens.

Ohhhhhh, I totally missed that you posted this???? I oversaw it on my friends feed.

I am already totally in love with this story. They are so cute together, especially baby Jun and Nino :D I can imagine Nino being a brat in the youngest age already :D When he coloured Ohno's nose - that's just so cute. Ohno is like a rock, he doesn't even care about that *lol*

They are family and always together, that's such a nice vow they made <3

But I think they'll have fights later on ;) Like a normal family always has, right? :D

I am really looking forward to the next chapters <3

Thanks for sharing this one ^^

Thanks^^

Okay, I'll consider myself warned - although if it's gen stuff, I'm usually a lot more okay with cheesy sappy stories than if it's relationship stuff... ;P
