Aiba uses his veto. Up to this point Nino didn’t even know he had a veto. Up to now he thought they pretty much shared the same sentiment for pretty much all kind of things. Everything. He believed that none of them cared much for Christmas, except maybe for the food. This is until Aiba uses his veto, against Nino and his plans. Or rather against his non-existent plans.
“I want to keep our Christmas traditions!” he says. “I want to decorate a Christmas tree!”
Up to now Nino didn’t even know they had a tradition. He didn’t know Aiba actually cared. “We never celebrated Christmas,” he dares to point out. “Yet alone decorate a Christmas tree.”
Aiba’s answer comes fast. “But I love Christmas, and I finally want to celebrate it.”
“But it’s also your birthday,” Nino argues, not sure how to react. “I always thought you prefer celebrating your birthday over Christmas. I mean… I… it’s on the same day after all…”
“I know.” Aiba looks sad all of a sudden, and it makes Nino’s heart ache. “Can’t I have both?” As Nino is at a loss of words, he carries on with a: “I’m selfish, aren’t I?”
Not at all, Nino thinks but doesn’t manage to say it as they resume their rehearsals. Aiba can be selfish sometimes, like all of them. But it’s not selfish that he wants to celebrate both his birthday and Christmas.

“Tricky,” Jun comments and his dry and direct statement sets Nino’s mind at ease immediately. That’s why he goes to talk to Jun and not to one of the others. Previously Jun just went on his annual rant about Sho always visiting his sister on Christmas and only coming home late at night for Christmas Eve. And as every year he dismisses Nino’s suggestion to tell Sho that the day actually means something to him, that he feels lonely without him. They probably share the same fears, Nino thinks. Jun and Aiba didn’t want to get on their partners’ nerves. He understands that now.
“Yeah, it’s both at the same day,” Nino points out.
“You love him and want to make him happy,” Jun muses. “But you can’t divide yourself into two pieces.”
“True. I also can’t celebrate his birthday on the 23rd,” Nino agrees. “It wouldn’t be the same.”
“Yes.” Jun goes into his thinking mode. “You know,” he says after a while. “I wonder if Aiba-kun really wants a huge celebration though.”
Nino blinks. “What do you mean? He specifically said he wants to celebrate both.”
“Yeah, but he didn’t say how he wants to celebrate. Does it have to be complicated? You mentioned you don’t have any traditions yet, so how about creating some on your own?”
Nino blinks in surprise. That’s true. Why didn’t he think of that? Aiba probably doesn’t want to have a crazy party, he doesn’t want Nino to go to extreme lengths to celebrate both events, he just wants to celebrate both.

When Aiba comes home this evening Nino has already set a Christmas tree in the living room. “Help me,” he commands. “We need to shove the sofa aside! There is no way I will pass on playing my games just because we have a Christmas tree in the apartment.”
Aiba basically drops everything in his hands, hurrying to Nino’s help. Nino has found some ornaments for the tree in one of the boxes they never unpacked when they moved in together, and Jun handed him some of the ones he didn’t use anymore.
“I have been thinking,” Nino says while he sticks a sparkling star and a red apple to one of the branches of the tree. “About your birthday and Christmas.”
“No, forget it. I was silly,” Aiba hurries to say, eyes shining while he giggles at a fluffy cute reindeer ornament. He puts it on one of the top branches. The tree is small, because there is no way Nino could actually manage to carry a huge tree through Tokyo or transport it with a taxi, but Aiba doesn’t seem to mind.
“Not at all.” Nino looks at one of the bells Jun gave him. Okay, this stuff is kinda cute, he has to admit that much. “I have an idea. Tell me if you find it stupid.”
Aiba eyes him curiously. “What did you think of?”
“We are free on the 24th every year, so… how about from this year on we kick the day off with an awesome birthday brunch with everything you like! All private, just the two of us, because you have your birthday party with family and friends after New Year’s Eve anyways. And then at evening… I was thinking we could invite J for a Christmas dinner or visit him. Oh-chan is with his parents and Sho-kun always visits his sisters and mother on that day, he comes home late and-“
“YES!” Aiba throws some fake angel’s hair at the tree, hugging Nino and dancing with him around the living room. “This sounds perfect! I want to have a birthday brunch! And then we’ll invite Jun to us. Jun-kun shouldn’t be alone and wait gloomily until Sho comes back! Let’s have some fun together!”
He plants a happy kiss on Nino’s lips before he lets go of Nino’s hands with a bright smile, continuing with decorating the small Christmas tree. He looks so genuinely happy that it warms Nino’s heart immediately. Aiba didn’t want a huge party or a crazy fuss about this day, he just wanted Nino to come up with something and give him the chance to celebrate his birthday and Christmas on the same day. How they celebrate, doesn’t even matter. Just finding their own pattern for this day, their own tradition, matters to Aiba.

Thanks so much for your lovely comment! ♥ (Seems like no one is interested in Aimiya though. I always thought it's a popular pairing, but apparently it's not? I'm confused *lol*)

I think I saw a tumbleweed roll past just the other day.
People are probably busy with exams and holiday preparations, I guess.
I must admit if it was sexy Aimiya I couldn't have read it, but fluffy Aimiya is cuuuute.
*huggles*

I'm just surprised, this is my second Aimiya story with hardly any comments. So either I'm writing them really bad or people are not interested.
For me personally I have come to a few conclusions: I think from now on, I will only write my OTPs or those I really like. I will elaborate this further in a PM ^^

Very very sorry for the late comment >< It's my first day with access to a laptop in a while xD
I really liked this story, especially the way Nino solved the situation. Having a tradition of their own is definitely lovely <3
Thank you for writing it!!!! :D :D :D Dunno if many people read it, but I definitely did like it ^^ *hugs you*

And the plan is really good, they can celebrate everything now and only the two of them, plus Jun in the evening - that's perfect. 😍😍😍
Thanks for sharing this 😍😍
