Sho loosens his tie with a deep sigh. He feels tired and drained from a long day at work, and afterwards his boss even dragged him along for some drinks. Sho is going to be promoted to a high position soon, hence he plays along with all these antics for now.

When he wants to put on his slippers, he blinks in confusion. There is just one of them. Moving to the living room he sees the supposed culprit immediately. Their dog Biscuit is chewing on his second shoe. Sho frowns. Weird. Biscuit never goes for shoes, unless…

Sho walks towards the children’s playroom. “Say Masaki,” he says, frowning at his six year old son. “How come Biscuit has my shoes?”

Masaki’s big brown eyes look at him innocently. “I don’t know, Papa. Maybe Kazu did it?”

Sho sighs while shifting his eyes to his youngest son. Kazunari gurgles something and laughs while crawling on the floor. Sho picks him, kissing his forehead softly. “So,” he says. “You are the culprit?”

Kazunari grabs his nose and squeezes it, laughing happily.

“He is too small, he doesn’t know what he is doing,” Masaki explains wisely.

“Brilliant how he managed it to take my shoe and give it to Biscuit while he can’t even walk yet,” Sho mock-muses.

“He is the smartest little brother in the universe!” Masaki says with emphasis, probably really believing his words.

Sho smiles slightly and decides to let it slide for today. He shifts around a bit, eyeing the figure on the little sofa. Satoshi is sitting there, reading in a book for his school. He is going to be 11 in a month and will start Middle School soon. He hasn’t greeted Sho at all tonight. “Satoshi?” Sho asks.

Satoshi looks up, his eyes thoughtful. He never talks much, he rather watches, sometimes he hums a song or paints something. Sho wishes he would be more interested in the things he likes and one day become a lawyer like he is, but Jun has made him realize that Satoshi’s talents despite being in a different field aren’t less worthy.

“Daddy is sad,” he points out calmly.

Sho blinks. Jun is sad? “He is?”

“He was angry before,” Masaki points out.

“Did you do something?”

Masaki shakes his head, and it’s believable.

“He isn’t angry,” Satoshi says quietly. “He is sad.”

Sho nods. “I will look for your Daddy,” he says with a smile while handing Kazu to Satoshi, who immediately cradles him in his arms. Then Sho leaves them alone, hurrying to the kitchen.

Jun is baking something. It looks like a cake… His eyebrows are furrowed, but Sho instantly realizes that Satoshi is right. He looks rather sad than angry. “Hey baby,” he says softly, wrapping his arms around Jun from behind.

Jun tenses up momentarily. “You are home,” he says, apparently going for a casual tone now.

Sho snuggles against his back. “Next week I’ll be promoted to vice president. Then I’ll skip most of these socializing events and come home earlier.”

“I’m really proud of you, you know that right?” Jun asks.

“I know, but you wish I would be home more often,” Sho presses a kiss against his neck. “I wish so too.”

Jun relaxes.

“You do know that I’m proud of you too?” Sho asks.

Jun turns his head, raising his eyebrows. “What for?”

“You are managing the chaotic bunch here, and still find time to write your books.”

Jun smiles. “That’s nothing comparable to what you are doing.”

Sho blinks in confusion. “I’m just going to work each day, Jun. How can that be more than you do?”

Jun blushes slightly, and Sho isn’t quite sure why, but it makes him happy to see Jun happy again. He swiftly turns him over, smiling when Jun wraps his arms around him, and pulls him into a kiss.

“WAH! GROSS!” Masaki blurts out from behind. Sho reluctantly lets go of Jun and his lips and looks at Masaki. The small boy is grimacing, while he tugs Kazu after him on his right leg. Kazu is lying on his back, giggling and gurgling in joy while he lets Masaki pull him over the floor.

Sho sighs. “I told you not to carry Kazu like that.”

“But he is too slow!” Masaki complains.

“He will soon outsmart you all,” Jun states dryly. “I’ve already seen him scribbling on the wall and then hiding the pen in Satoshi’s pouch.”

Satoshi appears from behind, a pleased smile on his face. “He is smart already,” he says, apparently not upset at all that his little brother almost framed him for something he didn’t do.

“Kissing is still gross,” Masaki pouts and lets go of Kazu’s leg.

“Not gross,” Satoshi says calmly. “They are just displaying their love and intimacy for each other.”

Masaki crunches his little nose. “What?” he asks. “What’s intimacy?”

Jun grins and hands Masaki and Satoshi a cookie. “You sound like an old man sometimes, Sa-chan,” he jokes. “Must have gotten that from your father.”

Satoshi looks at him carefully, a glance Sho doesn’t quite get. Jun seems to understand though. “Tell him yourself, dear,” he says softly.

“Tell me what?”

Jun walks around them, ignoring Masaki and Kazu stuffing their mouths with chocolate and rests his hands on Satoshi’s shoulders from behind, turning him to face Sho. “Satoshi painted a picture,” he says calmly. “The school is going to display it.”

“That’s great,” Sho says sincerely.

Satoshi shifts around. “I also kind of failed my math test,” he admits finally.

Sho winces slightly, but before he says something he goes for the strategy Jun told him once. He counts down from 10 to 1. Once he reaches 1, he nods to himself. “Why?” he asks.

Satoshi blinks. “Why I failed?”

Sho nods. “You studied, didn’t you?”

Satoshi nods. “I just don’t…” His voice trails off.

Jun gives Sho an encouraging nod. “Don’t?” Sho urges.

“Don’t understand numbers,” Satoshi finally admits. “I don’t know what they are telling me, and what I’m supposed to do with them.”

Sho sighs deeply. His own family was always very eager for him and his siblings to only have the best marks. They didn’t tolerate any weakness. Sho was able to do well, but his brother had a lot more problems. He lost a lot of confidence, and Sho swore to himself to never repeat the same mistakes as his parents. He gets down on his knees to be on Satoshi’s level. “I’ll study with you. I know numbers well. I know what they are telling us to do.” He tilts his head., remembering another of Jun’s suggestion. You want Sa-chan to talk to you and be responsible, then talk to him like an adult.

“You know, once you graduate you can choose any career path you want, but for that you have to go through school, even if it’s hard sometimes.” He reaches out his hand. “So what do you say?”

Satoshi’s eyes widen in surprise. He takes Sho’s hand eagerly and shakes it while nodding.

WOW! Sho is amazed. First real parental progress with his oldest son! He didn’t expect it. He grins proudly once he gets up. Jun just rolls his eyes and chuckles. He hands him and Satoshi a few plates. “You two can set the table. And take Kazu with you.”

“Masaki and I will prepare the dinner.”

“YES!” Masaki chirps, wriggling while Jun cleans up his chocolate-smeared fingers. “Masaki wants to help!”

Sho grins while he carefully balances a few plates in his arms, and Kazu who constantly wants to smear his face with chocolate.

Satoshi smiles happily. “Let me help you,” he chuckles, and takes Kazu from Sho’s arms.

Sho sighs in relief. “Thank you, my boy.” When Masaki joins them after a few minutes, Sho smiles slightly. “Can you two keep a secret?”

“I can,” Satoshi says calmly. “Not sure about Masaki.”

Masaki pouts. “I can keep a secret too,” he complains.

Sho winks. “Then who wants to see what I bought your Daddy for Christmas?”

“Oh, I want to see it!” Masaki raises his hand excitedly. “Wait, I’ll get Kazu. He wants to see too.”

Satoshi frowns in worry before he hurries after Masaki. “But don’t tell anything to Daddy, Masa, or we won’t get to know!”

Sho chuckles, continuing with settling the table while the three boys are quarrelling in the living room. Jun joins him in confusion. “Did something happen?”

Sho laughs, kissing Jun softly.  “Nothing,” he says with a smile.

This is more beautiful than what u expected. Their family are so wonderful. Sho is alwayd busy, but with Jun as his partner...i think they do well. Also the way Sho handle their childern, and when he do something that Jun told him, it make me feel warm. He's such a caring and lovely husband!
And Jun is being as perfect as always. He deserve the all the love! The children also so cute. Satoshi is so amazing, the cheerful Masaki, and that bratty Nino! They are so cute!

I like this a lot!!!! I'm here cooing over their adorableness as a family. Sho and Jun are such nice, responsible parents, with Satoshi who is perfect as the eldest son and Masaki and Kazu being so adorable. I love their pet's name - Biscuit <3
The situation in how Sho handling Satoshi's confession is just so admirable, I could imagine the real Sho handling the situation like what you wrote here.
And I love the small intimate moments of Sho and Jun as partners
