Jun walks through the corridor of the hospital, happy that the nurses just told him Shori accepted to go to inpatient care without them needing to force him. He calls Jun regularly, and he seems to slowly recover. He is young, Jun knows it will help him that his problem got discovered so early.
He is about to fetch himself some lunch when he sees a well-known figure talking to one of the nurses. Jun blinks in surprise. “Sho-san?”
Sho turns around, eyes widening in surprise. “Jun-kun!” He smiles at the nurse and approaches Jun. “What are you doing here?” he says with such a genuine smile that Jun actually feels surprised. The Sho he knows hardly ever smiled. This had to be an alien that took over his body!
For a moment Jun closes his eyes, trying to feel deep inside himself. How does it feel to see Sho again? Does he feel sad, angry, pained? To his surprise the many negative emotions he had before are a lot more... numb now… instead he feels a bit melancholic, sceptical and scared, but there is not much of the darkness left he used to feel when he thought of Sho. A bit of it is still here though. He wonders if he will ever get rid of it entirely.
It’s weird, this alien-Sho here has nothing to do with the old one. The way he smiles and is patient. It's like he is a whole new persona. Jun is also surprised that Sho has respected his boundaries after they met the last time and didn’t stalk him or get on his nerves, he just occasionally dropped him a message on Line and Jun answered, just… normal.
“I’m volunteering here,” Jun answers.
Alien-Sho raises his eyebrows. “Just how many jobs do you have?”
Jun blushes. “I’m not here that often,” he defends himself. “But from next month on I’ll start my training to become a consultant. I think this is something I’ll really like.”
Sho nods earnestly. “I can see you doing well in this field.”
“Even though I’m nuts?” Jun jokes.
Sho frowns, looking less like an alien now. “You are not nuts!” he huffs.
Jun smiles. “And you?” he asks.
“You want to know if I’m nuts?” Sho asks curiously, making Jun surprised by how dense he can be. When he was younger he always thought there was no one more educated, more intelligent and smarter than Sho-senpai. To hear him say something silly is weird.
“No, I wanted to know what you are doing here.”
“I’m working here,” Sho explains. “As a doctor.”
“You are kidding me!?” Jun exclaims in disbelief. “Didn’t you study economics and took over your father’s business to become a millionaire?”
Sho licks his lips. “After we broke up I… I kind of… realized how much my life sucked, how much I sucked. Then I had to stay in hospital for a while. And it triggered my wish to change everything about me. I recovered and changed my subject in college, and finished medicine.”
“What’s your field?” Jun asks, surprised by all this information. He doesn’t dare to ask why Sho had to be in hospital back then.
“Oncology,” Sho admits. “A difficult and sad field, but I want to help.”
“And are you married now?” Jun asks, trying to sound casual. It does feel good however to slightly stab Sho with his word. “The last time we met, you know, before we broke up, you said you would.”
Sho blushes deeply, suddenly looking embarrassed. “I was really shit, wasn’t I?”
“To me, yes. As a boyfriend you truly sucked,” Jun points out heartlessly.
“I didn’t marry,” Sho says quietly. “I told my parents I wouldn’t. Before they could disinherit me, I had to go to hospital, and they feared the negative backlash for disinheriting their sick child. Once I was better I wanted to look for you and apologize for how messed up I was.”
Jun’s head spins by what Sho just told him. He has never realized and known just how many similarities they shared. Both of them messed up, from messed up families, both of them were sick, both of them hated who they were and what they did to each other, both of them had to go a long way to change.
“If we had met at a different time, at a better place…” Jun mumbles more to himself than to Sho.
Sho looks sad. “Yes, if only.”
A/N: Another drabble of the current timeline. Seems like Sho and Jun both had to go a long path... and shared quite some similarities - just the way they acted on their problems were different (a lot). I wonder if Jun will ever get over the things that happened between them? (which we will get back to, I promise, but the next two drabbles will still be in our current timeline, to give us all a little moment to breath)
